The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins
I honestly didn't know which one of the books I've already read should I review first, but since it just came out here and I'm really excited about it (even though I read and own it in English),I thought I'd start the blog by reviewing one of the greatest books I've read so far-The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen year-old girl, who lives with her mother and little sister in a post- apocalyptic world. In this world there's a government called the Capitol, which organizes an annual game for television called The Hunger Games. This cruel survival game consists in taking one girl and one boy from each of the twelve existent districts(randomly),and making them compete against each other, killing each other, until only one of them remains, the winner. When Katniss's sister Prim,is chosen to be the girl tribute of this year's game,Katniss steps forward asking to take her sister's place.
The story from then on tells us about how Katniss deals with the other tributes in the game, including the preview preparations and dealing with the boy tribute of her same district.
Okay,I must admit-even though I knew from the beginning the reason of Katniss going to the game,at the end of the first chapter I was crying. The story pulled me in instantly.I couldn't stop reading!,not because it's a 'beautiful' story, but because it's intriguing,well-build and for me,the characters were so real.I just needed to know what was going to happen next.
I really feel like I understood Katniss, her actions, the way she felt, every single page I read,it was like I was the one trying to survive,I was the one competing in the game. And that's what's so great about this book.
It's obviously not your normal young adult book, but it's definitely refreshing.
It's well-written,it's in present,so it keeps us surprised, and it leaves you wanting more!
You learn to love the characters,to cry with them,to feel sorry for some of them too.
I loved Katniss,she's such a strong character,she's a fighter.Loved ,loved Peeta too!
I had a hard time deciding which side should I be in,cause I connected with both.
I can't wait to get my hands on Catching Fire and Mockingjay!
I read this book a few months ago,and still,I'm amazed.
That's all I have to say.
I recommend it a hundred percent, especially for those who enjoy adventure in books.I give it ***** ,that's 5 stars!
So,if you haven't read it,what are you waiting for?
And here's the israeli cover of the book, which came out this month here in Israel.
I just noticed it's the same cover as Germany...
What do you think about it?
